What do I do?

I am an advocate of the High Court of South Africa, trained in all aspects of forensic craft and litigation.

I appear in various kinds of fora (yes, that is the plural of forum…) including courts (both superior and lower courts), tribunals, councils, commissions, enquiry bodies, arbitrations, etc.

A large part of my work involves drafting of pleadings, notices, affidavits and written submissions (to the many fora indicated above). There can be a substantial benefit for an attorney to brief counsel from the start of a matter as counsel will then be able to draft pleadings / affidavits / documents with the end in mind. Counsel is generally well acquainted with the law of evidence and would be able to draft documents, bearing in mind any onus or burden of proof resting upon his client.

I am also able to represent parties in arbitrations or to act as a chairperson, prosecutor / employer representative in disciplinary enquiries and the like.

In short, counsel can do many things – the only requirement, generally, is that he should hold a brief from an attorney to do so.

I can receive briefs from any practicing attorney.
