What do I know?
(What follows below is not really the answer to the question above…. This is really the answer to the question: What did I learn?)
I obtained my B.Com and LL.B. degrees from the Rand Afrikaans University (now University of Johannesburg).
I completed my articles of clerkship (candidate attorney) at the firm Jay Mothobi Incorporated of Johannesburg.
After having completed my articles of clerkship I practiced with the same firm as a Professional Assistant.
Hereafter I practiced for a brief period as an Associate at the firm AJS Attorneys of Randburg.
After having practiced as an attorney I transferred to the non-practising roll and was employed by the City of Johannesburg in a legal advising capacity (within the Revenue Department).
After my time in the City’s Revenue Department, I was promoted to a position in the Shareholder Unit (later renamed Group Governance Department) of the City of Johannesburg, where I became intricately involved in corporate governance, administrative law, public sector law and municipal law.
During my time at the City of Johannesburg I obtained a CIS Professional Post-Graduate Qualification in Company Secretarial and Governance Practice.
At the beginning of 2013 I commenced pupillage at the Pretoria Bar where I served pupillage under the mentorship of Advocate Wayne Gibbs.
I practiced from Circle Chambers in Brooklyn, Pretoria from 2013 – February 2017. From March 2017 – August 2022 I was a member of the Johannesburg Bar (and held chambers at the Maisels Group until June 2020).
I joined the Pan African Bar Association of South Africa (PABASA) during August 2022.
